A natural mutation of the Bourbon plant variety, Caturra is both familiar yet uniquely exquisite. First ceremoniously created by the Coffee Gods on an estate in Minas, Gerais Brazil over a century ago (miraculously, 10,000k miles away from the origin of the Bourbon plant), it has since become one of the most well-known of specialty coffee varieties in the world. Sharing many similarities to the Red Bourbon tree it spawned from, the Caturra is a resilient variety known to resist drought, wind, and even intense heat. The plant’s “dwarf” size also makes it preferred by producers for its transportability. This combined with its desirable bourbon-esque cup profile makes Caturra one of the most sought-after coffees on the market to this day.
